1What is the EU-US Data Privacy Framework?
The EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) is a mechanism that enables U.S. companies to receive personal data from the European Union in compliance with EU data protection requirements. It was established following the invalidation of the Privacy Shield framework and addresses concerns raised in the Schrems II decision.
The DPF provides a legal basis for transatlantic data flows by requiring participating U.S. companies to commit to robust data protection obligations and enforcement mechanisms.
Key Features of the DPF
- Binding commitments to data protection principles
- Independent dispute resolution mechanisms
- Federal Trade Commission (FTC) enforcement authority
- Annual recertification requirement
- Enhanced safeguards for government access to data

3Accountability for Onward Transfer
